It's becoming more popular than ever for companies to release their flagship cellphone handsets being water-resistant. These phones don't need bulky, rugged, "military-grade" cases, because they're designed to withstand total submersion for a set amount of time. Or, at the very least, can handle a bit of rain and snow.

At this rate, waterproofing is on its way to becoming an industry standard, and soon, we'll all be jumping into the pool with our devices. In the meantime, here're five high-end, splash-friendly phones available in the market right now, that are worth checking out.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge

Samsung's current flagships, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, are sleek, with the S7 Edge model having a display that curves down on its left and right edges. Like the LG G6, they're rated to IP68 standards, which means they're technically more protected against water ingress when compared to Apple's iPhone 7. Unfortunately, they're not covered for water damage though.

Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

You might not like that Apple decided to ditch the headphone jack, but doing so allowed it to literally plug a hole and offer an IP67 rating on its latest phones. The iPhone 7 can be immersed in up to 1m of water for a maximum of 30 minutes. Just keep in mind Apple's warranty still won't cover water damage. So, while they're designed to be water resistant, if they're not, it's your fault.

LG G6

LG's new flagship is the latest phone to offer waterproofing. It has a non-removable 3,300mAh battery and wireless charging to ensure a tight seal, and it promises an IP68 rating, which is good for both dust and water. It's protected against water ingress to a maximum depth of 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes, as well as protected against dust ingress.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active

Samsung's Galaxy S7 Active is basically like its sleeker flagship but Samsung put an extra layer of protection on top of the display glass to prevent cracking. It's meant to withstand falls from up to 1.5m. Unfortunately, the original run had a flaw in the production line that caused some S7 Active units to sustain water damage, but that flaw has been fixed, and the phone is IP68-rated to sustain full submersion in about 1.5m for up to 30 minutes. It's also protected from dust and dirt.

Sony Xperia XZ

Sony hit it out of the park with its latest flagship, which offers a 23-megapixel camera, a Snapdragon 820 processor, and a 5.2-inch full HD display. It's also the latest handset from Sony's X range to be water-resistant and dustproof. It offers IP68 so you can go into the pool with it and leave it under the water for up to 1.5m for about 30 minutes.
